Based on our client needs, we develop decision making and performance management dashboards to assist our clients in performing cognitive activities such as discovery, decision making and explanation.
Data visualization can be considered as a high bandwidth connection between data on a computer system and a human brain (Ware, 2004).
As discussed by Ware (2004), the figure above represents four stages in the data visualization process. In the first stage, raw data is collected and stored. An appropriate data is selected based on the task of visualization. Both physical and social environments are involved in the data collection process.
In the second stage, raw data is preprocessed to clean the data, and preprocessed data is transformed into data tables which have mathematical relational structure and which can be mapped into visual structures (Card et al. 1999). In the third stage, data tables are mapped into visual structures which are then transformed into views at computer screen through graphics engine. In the fourth stage, graphics on computer screen are used by human analyst for interaction, increasing the ability of human analyst to perform cognitive activities such as decision making.
The backward loops starting from human analyst represent feedback loops that depict gathering more data, exploring new transformations while transforming processed data into data tables, and manipulating view while interacting with the graphics on computer screen.
